ARTIST STATEMENT
There is such beauty in the mundane moments of life. Having your morning coffee, cutting a fresh bouquet of flowers to go in a vase, enjoying a meal with or without company. The cup of water you keep beside your bed. I wish to make work that can be integrated into those moments and potentially bring people to appreciate and see the beauty for themselves in the simple moments throughout our daily life. I make functional, predominantly wheel thrown pottery. Clay is from the earth and I want that reflected in my work. I believe that tension between fired ceramics and the ground you are standing on can be felt and the closer proximity I am able to achieve the more desirable that piece becomes and the more likely the piece will find its way into someone’s daily routine.
I look at the lines around me in South Minneapolis and the lines in my memories for inspiration. These lines I integrate into my pots in hopes it gives them some life. I want my pieces to hold your hand. I want sensual waists and a stable, collected voice. I will make pots with the same diversity and comfort of a block's worth of different front doors.
